 Support Your Local Ecology

We’re not waiting around for our corporate overlords to do something about the environment they’ve trashed anymore; we’re fighting climate change in our own backyards. Scientists estimate that nature-based climate solutions can account for 30% of the carbon sequestration needed to limit global warming. Every native plant is a revolution.

Grow Your Own Food

Not in a MAHA way, but in a “Shit’s Getting Expensive” way and “truly one of the most satisfying feelings is eating something you nurtured in your own backyard” kind of way. No matter what kind of outdoor space you have, you can grow something that adds fresh nutrients to your table and a deeper connection with the earth to your psyche.

Spend More Time Outside

Interrupt your doom-scrolling to touch some grass this year. Even better, touch a diverse mix of native forbs, grasses, and sedges. Tending to a garden is (scientifically proven!) one best ways to feel better about the world we’re living in. Not to mention, plenty of opportunities to take some rage out on invasive weeds!

Tuesday, April 7

Here’s what to expect:

  1. We’ll start with the crucial first step that most landscapers skip: observing your space. You’ll learn how to evaluate your outdoor space, your resources, and your capacity before we move into planning a garden that works for you.

  2. We’ll talk through frost dates, hardiness zones, ecoregions, and what you really need to know before heading to the garden center.

  3. We’ll go over plant communities, layers, and bloom times. Whether you’re starting from scratch or filling in empty spots, you’ll be able to make a plan for your space.

  4. I’ll take you through each season, step by step. We’ll focus on what to do in the spring (and when to do it), and go over the lay of the land for the summer and fall.

This is a virtual workshop that will take place on Zoom. The chat will be open to participants, and I’ll take questions either via chat or by voice at the end of each section. The workshop will be recorded and sent to everyone who registers the following day.

This is for you…

…if you’ve never gardened before

Hi, I’m Kat!

I'm an art educator turned marketing strategist turned ecological landscape designer rooted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I've studied native plants and ecological gardening since 2020, and in 2024 I became a certified Permaculture Designer.

I'm obsessed with the power of plants to heal people and the planet. I believe every person deserves access to beautiful natural spaces, and I think those spaces can be created right in our own backyards.
